This project was initiated by Irit Levy and Pam Givens to promote mosaic art as fine art.
Mosaic was one of the earliest medium to create works of art, partly because of its resistant to environmental hazards making it a long life beauty.
Contemporary mosaic art has gone to so many different directions. Some artists use the old materials with contemporary designs, some use old designs with new materials, some follow the old ways and others are creating every single day new language of mosaic.
We are going to publish different books, each with a different theme but all be showcases of mosaic as fine art.
Who are we:
Pam Givens is an American mosaic artist, a second generation in a family of mosaic artists.
About 2 years ago, Pam has created the very successful website – CMA (Contemporary Mosaic Art) - a worldwide social network designed exclusively for mosaic artists. It aims to educate and inspire artists, to promote dialogue and connection, and to encourage the artistic growth of its members. CMA holds today about 1200 members across the world, and has become a meeting point for the mosaic community. Its members are a fine combination of novice artists as well as very established ones, amateurs and professionals.
In 2009 Pam established a mosaic school Mosaico Scuola Menossi with the mosaic master Giulio Menossi.
You can read more about Pam in Pascal Levaillant blog who posted an interview with her.
Irit Levy is an artist for about 3 decades putting her hands on any material or media that came across, but since 2007 she is doing mostly mosaic art.
Irit has studied fine art in the art academy in Israel and was trained mainly as a painter. However, her continuous work, her numerous travels in the world and her involvement in the art scenes opened her eyes to see that fine art can be found everywhere, in every material, every medium and every shape.
In 2009 Irit had created the blog Mosaic is Art.
You can learn more about Irit and her art in her websites where you can also find links to publications about her.
